Milano keeps evolving

Thursday, 05 November 2020

While the redevelopment of Piazza Sicilia has been completed, the redevelopment of Piazza Minniti, the heart of the"Isola" district , is underway.

The project is part of the "Open Roads" initiative, the Municipality's plan to rethink mobility and public space in which the vision of a more sustainable and liveable city and the need to increase open spaces are combined to allow social distancing and safety during the ongoing health emergency.

Urban planning in Milan, new face and functions for two squares on Isola and in Chiesa Rossa districts

The Piazza Minniti intevention provides for the partial pedestrianization of the square, maintaining the connection to the west from via Sebenico and the one to the north towards via Borsieri, as well as access to via Garigliano, where a cycle lane will be built to the south, protected by break. Also in via Garigliano, some extension works are planned for the sidewalks, near the pedestrian crossings at the intersections, with the aim of improving road safety for pedestrians. Some racks will be placed in the square while an artistic project will be created on the pavement selected from the 43 proposals received in response to the public call.
