Culture was one of the sectors most affected by the pandemic, with the closure of schools, museums, theaters and cinemas. As well as after the war Milan started the rebirth from culture, with the Toscanini concert at La Scala, also now culture remains a central element of the post-pandemic rebirth.
And it starts again from Piazza Duomo by announcing that the second Arengario will also become part of the " Museo del Novecento". The municipality has officially published an international call for proposals to design "NovecentoPiùCento", the name given to the extension of the museum itinerary.
The goal is to connect it to the existing exhibition space in order to create a single large building dedicated to modern and contemporary arts, whose standard, as for collections, as well for exhibition spaces and services, will position it among the main Italian and foreign museums.
The criteria to select the first ten projects will be based on different aspects:the dialogue between the Museo del Novecento and the second Arengario and the spaces functionality and organization; the adherence of the work to the urban context and the technical and managerial feasibility of the proposed solution in relation to both maintenance aspects and environmental and energy sustainability.
as a second step the winning project will be identified, among the ten already selected, on the basis of further criteria, including: the quality of the proposal from a compositional and architectural point of view, with reference to the cultural objectives of the Museum; the synergistic relationship with the surrounding historical fabric - the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazza Diaz -; the relationship between the new building and the historic container to be preserved; the use of sustainable and easy-to-maintain materials and techniques; the functional organization and flexibility of the interior spaces.
